An investigation is under way to discover the cause of a large fire on the Firs Industrial Estate in Kidderminster on Monday night (23 October).

Over 50 firefighters from Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) tackled the blaze at DMS, involving 10 engines and a number of other specialist units.

The Environment Agency was on site from the early hours of Tuesday morning to remove contaminated water and prevent it getting into the River Severn. They will continue to monitor the situation and ensure risks to the environment are minimised.

There is also no risk to public health and the nearby canal has not been contaminated.

Councillor Marcus Hart, Leader of Wyre Forest District Council, said: "I'd like to reassure the public that there is no risk to their health following this fire, having been advised of this by Public Health England and the Environment Agency.

"We're working closely with all our partners, including the Environment Agency, in regards to the clean-up operation.

"We'll also be liaising with the business affected to get them up and running as soon as possible and we've spoken to nearby businesses on the industrial estate to address any impact on them as a result of the fire."

A fire investigation is underway however the fire is not being treated as suspicious at this time.
