Businesses in Kidderminster are supporting the Severn Valley Railway celebratory event where Flying Scotsman meets Tornado from Wednesday 21 September to Monday 26 September.
Visitors riding behind these two iconic locomotives and those on all SVR train journeys are urged to schedule a stop in Kidderminster as part of their day out on the Severn Valley Railway.
Cllr Tracey Onslow, Cabinet Member Champion for Planning & Economic Regeneration said
“The Council is encouraging retailers, restaurants, pubs and tea rooms to get on board with the Flying Scotsman visit and give visitors a super special steam themed experience. Kidderminster has lots to offer visitors who get off the train at Comberton Hill, so we hope to see families and train enthusiasts in the cafes, pubs and at the special themed market.”
A short walk down the hill on will bring you to The Beer Emporium where they will be serving real ales, mostly from local brewers, three ciders, bottled continental beers, wine and soft drinks.
In Oxford Street, The Gatsby Emporium includes a spacious coffee shop where families are welcome and there is plenty of room for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Throughout the Flying Scotsman week, there will be special food offers and there are tasty choices to suit everyone.
For more steam week fare, pop to the Vault Bar and Grill also in Oxford Street offering good value bar meals and sports TV screens. The Swan in Exchange Place in the heart of Kidderminster is a traditional 17th century pub serving traditional food at great prices and will be offering food and drink specials daily.
To add to the spirit of steam week, there will also be a themed market near the Town Hall where you can pick up a bargain, shop for fresh produce and enjoy live music every day.
In Exchange Street, Faded to Fabulous & The Tea Rooms offers a wonderful ‘vintage’ atmosphere with lots of interesting gifts and homewares to buy. Choose from a mouth watering range of delicious food including home made cakes, sandwiches, soups and pizzas.
Cllr Helen Dyke, Member Champion for Town Centres said
“The Flying Scotsman meets Tornado event looks set to be great fun for everyone taking part – it’s not only steam enthusiasts that are gearing up for this event. We’re anticipating extra visitor traffic in and around town so we remind residents and workers to think about journey planning.
There will be cones all along Hoo Road for a week to enable access for emergency services. They will be installed on Tuesday 20 September and collected on the following Tuesday, so drivers will need to take extra care and journey time in the town throughout this special week.”
