Almost 13,700 people in the Wyre Forest area have registered to vote by post in the EU Referendum on Thursday 23 June.

The Counting Officer for Wyre Forest has announced there are 77,605 people on the Electoral Register who are eligible to vote in the EU Referendum and almost 18% (17.6%) have requested a postal vote. At the May elections 15.4% of those eligible to vote opted for a postal vote.

Ian Miller, the Counting Officer said:

“We currently have 77,605 people on the Electoral Register who are eligible to take part in the EU Referendum, and there has been a significant increase in the percentage of people choosing to vote by post.  Anyone who has opted to vote by post should return their ballot papers in good time to arrive on or before Thursday 23 June.  If they forget to post the pack, they can still return it to any polling station in the district on the day. “

He added:

"It is now too late for people to register to vote in the EU Referendum or to register for a postal vote.  There is still time to apply for a proxy vote.  This allows you to nominate someone else to attend the polling station and cast your vote.  Applications need to be made by 5pm on Wednesday 15 June.  There is more information about applying for a proxy vote on the website, www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/elections. ”

The Counting Officer is asking people who are voting in person to check their poll card carefully to make sure they go to their allocated polling station.  Taking your poll card with you will help polling station staff.  There have been two changes to polling stations from the May elections because the normal locations are not available.  People from Blakebrook & Habberley South ward who would normally cast their vote at the Gainsborough Hotel will be using Kidderminster Evangelical Church in Greatfield Road.  Voters from Mitton ward who normally use Stourport Sixth Form College in Coniston Crescent, will now be using the LQ Arena, Windermere Way (by the side of Lifestyle Fitness).

This press release is issued on behalf of the Counting Officer for Wyre Forest, Wyre Forest House, Finepoint Way, Kidderminster DY11 7WF.
