It is less than a month until the new Wyre Forest Leisure Centre opens and photographs released today (Thursday 16 June) show the £11.9million facility is well on the way to completion.
The final fitting out of the new leisure centre is taking place. It will include a sports hall, six lane 25m swimming pool, learner pool with moveable floor, fitness suite, dance studios, climbing wall and small-sided outdoor pitches. It will also have a cafe with viewing areas, a double height children’s adventure play area, a health suite with sauna and steam room and free parking.
Wyre Forest District Council awarded Places for People Leisure (PfPL), the contract to design, build, operate and manage the centre at the start of 2015.
Stuart Booton, PfPL Contract Manager said:
“It has been exciting to see the building take shape, now it is turning into a state of the art leisure facility as new equipment is arriving daily. We think the new centre will exceed people’s expectations and everyone will be impressed with the quality of the facility which will become a hub of sporting and leisure activity for all residents.”
Residents can sign up for membership now and special opening offers are available until the end of June. A marketing suite is open at the site on Silverwoods Way, helping people to get the most appropriate membership option for them. It is open Monday to Thursday 9.30am – 9.00pm, Fridays 9.30am – 8.00pm and Saturdays and Sundays 9.00am – 5.30pm. Anyone who signs up by 30 June will pay just £20.16 and no further payment will be taken until August. The following monthly payments will depend on the type of membership taken out. People can also ring the Sales Team on 0845 200 8668 or pop into the Glades or Stourport Sports Centre for membership information. From Thursday 30 June members of the public can have a tour of the facilities on site.
Councillor Marcus Hart, Leader of Wyre Forest District Council said:
“We are now so close to opening and the excitement is really building. We are looking forward to Wednesday 6 July when people will be able to visit and use the first class leisure facility that they have. With excellent project management and working closely with our partners, the centre will be completed on budget, on time and will save the Council in excess of £500,000 per year.“
Wyre Forest Glades and Stourport Sports Centre will be closed from Saturday 2 July. This will give the Places for People team time to complete their training and preparations at the new centre. There will be limited opening of some of the facilities in the current centres during the final week (Monday 27 June – Friday 1 July) they are open. The swimming pools will be used for swimming lessons and the swimming club only. The fitness suites, group exercise programmes and the sports halls will all be available between 4.30pm and 10.30pm. There is no change at Bewdley Leisure Centre, which is remaining open as usual.
More details about the new leisure centre facilities and links to the membership offers are on the new leisure centre webpage.
