One lucky Wyre Forest resident could scoop £5,000 after Wyre Forest District Council signed-up to a national council tax campaign launched by Bacs Payment Schemes Limited (Bacs), the not-for-profit organisation behind Direct Debit in the UK.

To be in with a chance of winning the £5,000 prize, Wyre Forest residents must register to pay their council tax bill by Direct Debit before 5pm on  30 September 2016, either by returning a completed Direct Debit Instruction form by post, signing-up to Direct Debit online at, or calling 01562 732928 to arrange over the phone. Residents who already pay their council tax by Direct Debit will automatically be entered into the prize draw.

Lucy Wright, Revenues, Benefits & Customer Services Manager, said: “Direct Debit is a simple, safe and secure means of payment which is also more convenient for residents than other payment methods. It is also a much cheaper way for us to process payments and the money we save can be used for the benefit of local residents.

“Thanks to the prize on offer from Bacs, there is an attractive incentive for residents to switch payment methods and we’d love to see someone from Wyre Forest win the £5,000.

“Council tax bills have recently been sent out and we’re encouraging as many people as possible to look out for the prize draw information included, switch to Direct Debit, and be in with the chance of winning. Of course, those who already pay this way will go into the draw automatically.”

Dawneth Perry, Bacs’ local authority specialist, commented: “We are pleased to support all of the organisations taking part in this year’s national campaign; the first time we’ve brought together local authorities from across the country.

“We’ve run a London-specific campaign since 2010 and the results over this period have shown just how effective these initiatives can be. In fact, over the last six years our council tax campaigns have delivered in the region of £2.5m in savings for those participating and we’re now hoping that we can drive cost efficiencies for local authorities across the country.”
