Plans for the regeneration of Kidderminster include the provision of a thriving market, and there is now an exciting business opportunity to operate the market for two days a week in the town centre.
It is time to renew the contract for operating the market which has been running in the town on Thursdays and Saturdays for many years.
Following a recent public consultation by Wyre Forest District Council, it has been agreed to continue the market for two days a week with a provision for the Council to arrange special market events such as craft or food festivals.
Councillor Helen Dyke is the Council’s Town Centres Champion and worked with a Scrutiny panel on the public consultation conducted in September this year. Cllr Dyke said:
“We received more than 200 responses from traders and residents. The feedback said that the market is valued and there is an appetite for occasional specialised markets. We have taken this into account in the tender for the new market provision.”
Councillor John Campion, Cabinet Member for Planning and Regeneration said:
“Market days are busy in the town and we want to build on this in a positive way by installing more attractive stalls and attracting a wide variety of traders. This is all part of our vision to regenerate the town and make it a great place to do business, visit and shop. We welcome tenders from operators who share our vision and who wish to contribute to the Kidderminster of the future.”
The closing date for tenders is 16 November 2015. The contract will awarded for five years with an option for a further five years.
