A Wyre Forest landowner has been told to replant a 80m length hedgerow after removing it without informing the Council.
Wyre Forest District Council served a Hedgerow Replacement Notice yesterday (Wednesday 7 October 2015).
The Hedgerow, located on Long Bank in Bewdley was reported to have been removed in August 2015 after being purchased by Forces Support Limited.
The Council’s Planning Department was alerted to the disappearance of the hedgerow by concerned members of the public in the surrounding area.
Councillor John Campion, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration said:
“The Council has an important role to play in protecting the environment. It is vital that landowners inform the Council of their intentions to remove a hedgerow.
“Unfortunately, the landowner did not notify us of their plans and as a result, the appropriate assessments couldn’t be carried out. This has now resulted in a Replacement Notice being issued. This legislation is in place to protect hedgerows from being destroyed and I would like to urge landowners to seek advice in the future.”
The landowner has until February 2016 to replant the Hedgerow.
