Bewdley Town Council is a step closer to developing a Neighbourhood Plan, following formal designation of the Parish as a Neighbourhood Area.
Wyre Forest District Council has successfully put in place its own planning framework which helps communities progress a Neighbourhood Plan.
Neighbourhood planning is part of the Government's Localism Agenda and empowers local communities to have a major say in shaping development in their area.
Working in partnership with the District Council, the Neighbourhood Planning process will enable residents of Bewdley to influence new developments. The application to become a Neighbourhood Area is the first stage in the process of developing a Neighbourhood Plan.
As it develops, the Neighbourhood Plan will undergo community consultation with the local Parish. This will include a local referendum to determine support before the plan is finally adopted. Once adopted, the Plan will form part of the Wyre Forest District Local Plan and will be a material consideration in the planning process.
Councillor John Campion, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration said:
"We are delighted that the Parish of Bewdley has now become a Neighbourhood Area allowing Bewdley Town Council to progress their Neighbourhood Development Plan. Early action and investment to establish a planning framework for the Wyre Forest District has made it easier for local communities to prepare Neighbourhood Plans. We look forward to working closely with Bewdley Town Council as part of the New Localism Agenda.”
