More than 3000 visitors from all areas of the UK and as far afield as Spain kicked their heels up at this year’s Country and Western event last weekend (Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August 2015) at Stourport’s Riverside.
The atmosphere was upbeat and even though the weather was very changeable, and at times spectacular, everyone was enthusiastic and enjoyed the live music and got involved with the dancing.
Councillor Marcus Hart, Leader of Wyre Forest District Council said:
“This is a very popular and much looked forward to event by local people and visitors who travel miles to be here. It’s great to see people enjoying themselves in the line dancing and watching the fun from their deckchairs. This event is a shining example of the Council’s commitment and investment in the well-being of the district despite difficult funding decisions.
Cllr Hart added:
“Families have turned out with their dogs and their picnics creating a very community centred atmosphere. The costumes, as in previous years, were impressive in their authenticity bringing a real Western feel to the event. The bands received great reviews and we have had many requests from visitors to confirm dates for next year, so they can book their B&B accommodation locally.”
The District Council organises the Country & Western event with the help of volunteers and sponsorship support from Brian Murdoch. Traders reported a successful event and are already booking their pitches for next year.
Camping at the event is growing year on year and adds another dimension for visitors who enjoy meeting other Country & Western enthusiasts.
