Wyre Forest District Council is asking residents and other interested groups to comment on proposals for changes to polling districts and polling places that are used for Parliamentary and Local Government elections.

Under the Representation of the People Act 1983, the council has a legal duty to divide the authority area into polling districts and to designate a polling place for each polling district. It also has a duty to keep these arrangements under review.

Earlier this month (14 October) the Local Government Boundary Commission for England confirmed its plan to reduce the number of wards within the Wyre Forest district from 17 to 12.  This will take effect from the next District Council elections in May 2015.  The consultation proposals take the changes into account.

Views are invited from residents as well as local community groups and anyone having particular expertise in access to premises or facilities for people with different forms of disability. Local political parties and Councillors will also be consulted.

Ian Miller, Electoral Registration Officer said:

“We’ve looked closely at the new ward boundaries and worked up proposals for new polling districts and places.  It is important that the pattern of polling places is convenient for electors and cost-effective for taxpayers. This review gives everyone the opportunity to have their say on the proposals before final decisions are taken.

“Comments don’t have to give alternative suggestions: they could be support for the plans too. By taking part in the consultation, local people can influence the final decisions that will be taken by the Council in December.”

Details of the proposals can be found at  or by visiting either Wyre Forest House, Finepoint Way, Kidderminster, Worcestershire, DY11 7WF, Worcestershire Hub Kidderminster Town Hall Vicar Street, Kidderminster DY10 1DB, Kidderminster Library Market Street Kidderminster DY10 1AB, Bewdley Library Load Street Bewdley DY12 2EQ, or Stourport-on-Severn Library, Worcester Street, Stourport-on-Severn, DY13 8EH.

Comments should be sent to or in writing to the Electoral Registration Officer, Wyre Forest House, Finepoint Way, Kidderminster, DY11 7WF.  The deadline is 5pm on Monday 17 November 2014.

The proposals will be considered by Council on Wednesday 10 December and the outcome of the review will be published on this website.
