Waste Recovery Plan
When circumstances, such as this period of
adverse weather, affect the normal collection of waste from
households our Waste Management Team implement a recovery plan to
ensure disruption is kept to a minimum for residents and to
prioritise the collection of rubbish.
Key points from the plan, undertaken during
this period of adverse weather, include:
- Commencing collections only when it is safe to
do so.
- Cancelling recycling collections until
rubbish collections have been cleared.
- Communicating with front-line staff and
customers that residents should place their bins out for
collection on the normal day and leave it out; crews will
collect them as soon as safe to.
- Mobilising additional crews and resources
wherever possible to deal with the backlog.
- Collecting a sensible amount of side waste for
customers whose collections have been missed.
- Providing recycling bags (collectable from
Green Street or Worcestershire Hubs at Kidderminster, Stourport
or Bewdley) to help cope with additional recycling.
- When a street has been collected further
revisits for individual “missed-bins” will not be possible – these
will be collected as soon as possible or on the next collection
day.
Please rest assured that our crews will do
their utmost to collect your rubbish and recycling in line with the
recovery plan.
You can help our crews by:
-
Placing your bins out on the normal day for collection.
-
Leaving your bins where they can be easily accessed.
-
Leaving any additional rubbish securely bagged next to the
bin.
-
Leaving any additional recycling in a box or UNTIED bag next to
the bin.
A full press release has been issued:
Wyre Forest District Council is asking
residents to support refuse and recycling crews dealing with the
backlog created by adverse weather conditions.
Councillor Nathan Desmond, Cabinet Member for
Resources said
“Please be assured that our crews will do
their utmost to collect your rubbish and recycling as soon as
possible. When the normal collection of waste from households is
disrupted by bad weather, our waste management team activates a
recovery plan to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum for
residents and to prioritise the collection of rubbish.
This means we cancel recycling collections
until rubbish collections have been cleared. We
mobilize additional crews and resources wherever possible to deal
with the backlog and we make provision for collecting a sensible
amount of side waste for customers whose collections have been
missed.
There are four ways that residents can help
the refuse and recycling crews. Firstly please put bins out on the
normal day for collection. Leave your bins where they can be easily
accessed. Leave any additional rubbish securely bagged next to the
bin and finally, leave any additional recycling in a box
or untied bag next to the bin. This will be greatly
appreciated by crews."
The Council also provides recycling bags to
help with additional recycling. These can be collected from the
depot at Green Street Kidderminster (next to B&Q) or the
Worcestershire Hubs at the Town Hall Kidderminster, Civic Centre
Stourport on Severn or Load Street Bewdley.
Councillor Nathan Desmond, added
“We will continue to keep residents informed
with regular updates on our website and also through local
newspapers and radio. Over the last few days the refuse and
recycling crews have been redeployed to help clear pathways and
streets of snow. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the
team for their combined efforts to continue to deliver services in
these adverse weather conditions.”
Please put your bin out on your normal day
and we will attempt to collect your bin once it is safe
to do so.
