The Government has in place schemes to help homeowners
facing repossession. You may be able to get help through one
of these schemes and you should talk to your lender to get
advice on whether these schemes could help you.
Mortgage Rescue
The mortgage rescue scheme is a government scheme that is run by
Wyre Forest Community Housing on behalf of the Council. If
you are eligible, it could provide financial help for you to stay
in your home. For more information please see our Mortgage Rescue page.
Support for Mortgage Interest (SMI)
If you are claiming Income Support,
income-based Jobseeker's Allowance or income-related Employment and
Support Allowance and you are a homeowner, your benefit may include
SMI.
You will only get help towards
mortgage interest payments for a mortgage or loan to buy or
improve your home. SMI is normally paid directly to your lender.
There is no guarantee that you will get SMI for a loan you take
out.
No help can be provided towards
housing costs such as payments of capital owed on a loan, insurance
premiums or mortgage arrears. Further details on SMI can be
found at the Government's
public services website.
