War Memorials
The council only owns the war memorials at St
Mary's Church and the cemetary, there are no other council owned
ones that are located on land that is accessible to the
public.
However there are memorial plaques located inside some of our
buildings (such as the plaque commemorating those who served in the
Boer War, on the first floor of the Guildhall in Bewdley).
Here are some useful sources of advice about war
memorials:
Many war memorials are located in conservation areas. Some may
form part of the national register of listed buildings or their
curtilages, or perhaps are listed themselves (including locally
listed buildings). If you are planning to move, remove or make
alterations or repairs to a war memorial, it may require planning
consent and/or listed building consent. You are advised to contact
the
development
control team before you carry out such work so that they can
tell you whether or not you need to submit a planning
application.
