Co-opted Members
Co-opted Members are members of the general public, who are not
Wyre Forest District Council Councillors, who have been invited to
sit on a Wyre Forest District Council Scrutiny Committee or Review
Panel.
Co-opted Members are invited to sit on Scrutiny Committees and
Review Panels for a number of reasons:
- They may provide an independant, non-political voice
- They may possess particular skills or experience which will
broaden the knowledge base of the committee or review panel
- They may represent hard to reach, under-represented groups,
specific communities of interest or service users who would
otherwise not be able to participate in the decision making
process
Co-optees play an important role in the work of Scrutiny
Committees and Review Panels, providing external challenge and
adding value through their skills and experiences. Their roles and
responsibilities are as follows:
- Attend scheduled meetings and other meetings as required
- Play an active role in contributing to the discussion topics
and issues
- Listen to other points of view, being non-judgmental and
respecting confidentiality
