Festival of Sport in the Wyre Forest 2012
Wyre Forest District Council held a week of
sporting activities throughout February half term to increase
awareness in the community of the up and coming London games.
During the week the Sports Development team
Dale Evans and Lucy Savage delivered free multi-sports sessions to
children with disabilities. The sessions were held at the Glades
Leisure Centre with the aim to provide young people the opportunity
to take part in numerous sports. We were able to deliver an hour of
multi-sports such as boccia and box hockey followed by an hour of
free swimming. The children and carers that took part thoroughly
enjoyed their physical activities during the week.

In addition, Sports Development organised a
festival of sport week at Stourport Sports Centre. Qualified
coaches were able to provide young children the chance to take part
in competitive matches and fun games throughout the two hour
session. Throughout half term the children had an opportunity to
take part in netball, football, hockey and Paralympic-themed
activities. With support from numerous volunteers we were
able to provide around thirty young children with sporting
activities and quality coaching. Overall, we received a 100%
positive feedback for the week.

Wyre Forest District Council’s Sports Development team aims to
encourage and increase opportunities for children of all abilities
to take part in sport and develop their skills within a safe
environment. As a result, during the Easter Holidays Wyre Forest
District Council organised and held multi-sports sessions within
recreational parks across the district. |

take part in sporting activities, to learn new skills and utilise
those skills within competitive small sided games. |

basketball, football and rounders. As the weather improved towards
the end of the week we were able to get more young people playing
sport with a maximum of 15 children at Shaw Hedge Park in Bewdley.
