Service Standards - Community Development
Role of Section
To develop cultural opportunities for the local community, and to
promote awareness and participation in a wide variety of
activities. The section includes Sports, Arts and Play Development
as well as the Conservation and Countryside Service. The team
provides and initiates a diverse range of activities and programmes
including the management of the district's nature reserves.
Collectively the section works on addressing cross cutting issues
such as anti-social behaviour, geographical hotspots and health.
The section has established good working relations with a number of
partners at local, regional and national levels. The section
maximises service delivery by accessing external funding.
What we provide:
Arts Development
- Develop audiences
- Promote cultural diversity
- Facilitate arts workshops, activities, events and
festivals
- Deliver Rural Touring programme
- Work with and support community art groups
Conservation and Countryside
- Management of 8 Local Nature Reserves and 3 Sites of Special
Scientific Interest (SSSI), including Grazing Animal Project
(national recognition)
- Education and engagement of the local community
- Working with volunteers on work parties
- Delivery of environmental activities, events
Play Development
- Provide free after school Fun Factory during term time
- Run holiday play schemes
- Clubs registered with OFSTED
- Concessions for families on benefits
- Support play development initiatives e.g. Surestart,
events
Sports Development
- Work through County Sports Partnership to deliver development
initiatives
- Support local voluntary sports clubs
- Develop coaching capacity within clubs
- Ensure players pathways are accessible to all young people
- Seek to address health inequalities through sport and physical
activity
Community Development
- Liaison with partners

Operating Standards
- All activity leaders working with young people must have
Enhanced CRB clearance
- Coaches must achieve minimum operating standards (MOS) to work
on our activities
- Follow good practice guidelines as detailed in WF Safeguarding
Children Policy this includes supervision ratios, training etc
- Employees trained in health and safety to deal with hazards and
incidents which may occur
- Parental consent is required for the majority of
activities
- Achieve recognised service standards for LNR/SSSI status
- Activity Passport to be completed by participants on summer
holiday activities
- Trip Log to be completed by activity leader when taking young
people outside the district
- Equality and diversity is a priority
- Activities are risk assessed
