Willow Project - Spennells Valley Nature Reserve
We commissioned Laura Bacon, a willow artist to create a site specific willow sculpture for Spennells Valley Nature Reserve.
Laura consulted and worked with local community youth groups and the Ranger Service to produce a living willow sculpture to be sited on Spennells Valley Nature Reserve, utilising willow available from the site where possible.
She delivered a series of workshops with local young people where they were taught the unique skills needed to create sculptures from willow.
Participants were encouraged to give their input and opinions on what they wanted to see situated at the entrance of the nature reserve
Laura designed a site-specific sculpture as a result of these workshops and the young people assisted her in the creation of the final piece. The project took place between December 2005 and April 2006.
