KAF Arts

Kidderminster Arts Festival

KAF (Kidderminster Arts Festival) began its life in 2003 with a small
grant from the Arts Council and attracting an audience of 2000 people.
Since then it has become a major element of the Arts and Play Development Section's portfolio and attracts the largest audiences
out of all our events - reaching a peak in 2010 at over 24,000.
KAF receives £5000 worth of core funding from Wyre Forest District Council and each year seeks external funding and sponsorship to enable to the program to be delivered.

KAF offers a diverse cultural experience to all ages and interests, including a program of free or heavily subsided performances workshops, shows, street arts and exhibitions.

The festival operates an approved buskers scheme and welcomes artists from any location using any art form into the town on busy market days.  Pitches are provided with electricity.

KAF has established a partnership with the ‘Xpressions Leisure Grant Scheme’ offering an annual commission opportunity for local artists to create work for the event and during the year running up to it with developmental support from the Arts Development Officer.

The event is held in the last two weeks of August in and around Kidderminster town centre in local venues and on the streets.

KAF works closely with ‘KAF Creatives’ a group of independent artists who use the event as a platform to present new work and promote established work to new audiences.

In 2007 KAF was awarded an Arts Council Grant to develop a Marketing Strategy and Economic Impact study.  Sadly, 2007 was a year where the County suffered almost total shutdown due to severe floods.  However the work conducted by Audiences Central has informed the development of KAF and proved to be a valuable tool.

KAF now has a healthy volunteer contribution, programs workshops and other events by local artists and is fast improving its business partners with ongoing support from Weavers Wharf and LSD Promotions.

Opportunities for local artists to create new work

Xpressions and KAF have joined forces to offer a special annual grant to artists to enable them to create a unique piece of work to be shown at the festival.

A Dragons Den style presentation, open to local artists who have an idea for a creative project and would like 20 minutes to persuade us to give a grant of £1500 to make it a reality at KAF13. You will be given support and publicity throughout the year.
