This lively Georgian town, set on the banks of the River Severn, developed with the building of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal in 1771.

Nowadays, the canal basins and locks provide a more tranquil scene and the riverside is the setting for an exciting range of family entertainment and the venue for many summer events. Riverboat trips also operate during the summer months.

Away from the riverside, visitors will discover many impressive Georgian buildings around the busy shopping area and a good variety of pubs, restaurants and cafes.
