The history of the coracle, different ways of crossing or travelling along the river, followed by the chance to view a variety of full-sized coracles and a hands-on model making session working in pairs.

A practical look at building styles and developments
Using Bewdley as an example of a contrasting location to an inner city, learn about the development of the town’s varied architectural styles. Includes a hands-on demonstration of brick making, wattle and daub and timber framing. Also follow an ‘eye spy’ trail walk around the town to spot the examples illustrated.

A look at the town’s past trades – the cooper, the butcher, the pipemaker Learn about the trades and crafts that helped to develop the town. A short illustrated introduction and the museum’s collection of artefacts for coopering, charcoal burning, besom broom making all help to illustrate these traditional crafts. Also included… an exciting hands-on session of ropemaking in the museum’s ropewalk and clay pipe making demonstrations.

After setting the scene for the wartime period, the day includes the black out, civil defence jobs, evacuation, rationing and children’s wartime games as well as the chance to learn about the different types of air raid shelters by experiencing a visit to our own at the museum.

The terrible Civil War, Bewdley’s Georgian heyday, workers of the 19th century or other important periods in times gone by can be explored in tailor-made workshops. Local History will spring from the dusty pages of history books and groups will see how the town of Bewdley changed during, and since, your chosen age.

An exciting, new, environment-based programme to learn about orchards and fruit picking in bygone eras and investigate the disappearance of many orchards throughout the region. You can:
- visit a newly planted orchard - find out about the plants and wildlife in the orchards - use creative skills to make a mini-beast or fruit design from clay
