Homelessness and Housing Advice

Housing legislation places various duties on local authorities to house homeless people in priority need and to provide advice and assistance to those not in priority need.

The management of the District Council's homelessness service is contracted out to Wyre Forest Community Housing who will offer an interview and full advice service.

The District Council only has an obligation to help people who are eligible for assistance. People who may not be eligible for assistance are people from abroad with limits to their right to stay in the country and people who are seeking asylum. Clarification can be sought from Wyre Forest Community Housing.

Wyre Forest's Homelessness Review and Strategy covers the period 2003-2008 and sets out the strategic aims of the Council as required by the Homelessness Act 2002.

The Homelessness Act 2002 requires local authorities to conduct a review of their homelessness services in the district, and based on that review produce a strategy for preventing and dealing with homelessness.
