Events attended in 2011

 

Right;  In March we launched the West Midlands Love Food Hate Waste Campaign in Kidderminster Town Centre with cookery demonstrations, recipe card giveaway and a competition to win a Smoothie Recipe Book or LFHW goodie bag.

Monica made a delicious curry using vegetables that a lot of people would normally throw away as they were past their best. She also made a lovely apple compote which was very popular with the kids!

Discover Bewdley Festival

May 1st & 2nd

Left & Below; In early May we attended the 2-day Discover Bewdley Festival and, with the help of Worcestershire County Council’s waste prevention team, Wyre Forest District Council’s Sustainability Team and Master Composters talked to over 200 people. Monica cooked lovely pancakes with pear compote which drew quite a large crowd!

Real Nappy Picnic & Family Fun Day

real nappy picnic changing demonstration At the end of May we hosted a Real Nappy Picnic at Worcester Woods Country Park. Mandie from Honeybee’s Natural Nursery Store gave demonstrations to parents and parents-to-be all day on how real nappies work and a ‘Show-Off Show’ showcased many different kinds of real nappies, demonstrated by the babies and toddlers who used them. The Kidderminster branch of the National Childbirth Trust provided a useful changing and breastfeeding tent, there were competitions, a bouncy castle and information from other organisations from recycling and composting to buggy fit and baby massage. real nappy picnic buggy fit

Bewdley Carnival June 11th & Kidderminster Carnival June 18th

Above; In June we attended the Bewdley Carnival and Kidderminster Carnival. At the Kidderminster Carnival we were joined by ‘Pete’ the plastic bottle - who was a definite hit with the kids and we were helped by Worcestershire County Council’s waste prevention team.

Right: at the end of June we attended the Under 5’s Day at Brinton’s Park where seed planting was a big hit. Despite a bit of rain children enjoyed digging in the soil and taking some colouring pages home with them.

Above; At the Borrington Bash in July children enjoyed planting cress seeds and looking at bugs through our special magnifying bug viewers before colouring in pictures of their favourite ones.

Playday August 3rd

In August we had an extensive stand at the Playday at Lickhill Memorial Park incorporating a Toy Swap Shop which was very well attended. Children entering our competition got to take away with them a mini wheelie-bin with recycled goodies and parents were able to take away some Love Food Hate Waste helping-hands such as a spaghetti measurer, bag clip or rice scoop. Master Composter Mary Bendell helped with seed planting and bug-colouring.

Horticultural Show September 10th & 11th
 

Right; In early September we took the events caravan to the 2-day Horticultural Show at the Ramada Inn in Bewdley. We were joined by Master Composters over the 2-days and gave out information about the Garden Waste Collection Service, run by Wyre Forest District Council. horticultural show

 

Compost Clinic September 22nd

Above; In late September we held a Compost Clinic outside the Town Hall in Kidderminster. We had troubleshooting hints and tips and demonstrated a wormery as well as advising people how to use composters for the first time. Visitors were treated to packs of seeds and potato peelers as well as handy composting pocket-guides.
