I'm interested! How do I join the service?

All properties in the Wyre Forest District that receive a rubbish/recycling collection from a wheelie bin are now eligible to join the service!

Complete an application form with the Direct Debit mandate form pdf logo (840KB) and return to us using the freepost address on the form. Alternatively, you can obtain a form from your local customer service centre.

Once your application has been accepted and your first year's payment received, we will deliver your bin along with a full information pack, within 15 working days. This will contain all the details you need for using the service, including your start date.

Why do I need to pay for the service?

We would like to encourage everyone to home compost wherever they can, however some households don't have adequate home composting facilities for the amount of garden waste they produce. Some properties don't have a garden at all therefore it would not be fair to charge everyone, through council tax, for a service that is only required by some of the households in our district.

Why is there an additional cost for the bin?

The £20.50 charge covers the cost of the bin itself and its delivery to your house. The one-off charge is only made when you first join the service; for additional years you will only be charged for collection.

Collections will only be made from Council-purchased 240 litre wheeled bins as these are made specifically to fit the lifting mechanisms on our collection vehicles.

Are there any concessions?

No concessions are available for this service.

Why can I only pay by Direct Debit?

Direct Debit provides a safe and easy way to make a one-off annual payment.  This also means we can keep our administration costs down and keep the cost of the service reasonable.  Payment will be taken from your bank account annually, ensuring there is no break in service.  You will receive a reminder when the annual payment is due.  To continue with the service, there is no need to do anything. If you wish to cancel your Direct Debit at any time, please notify your bank and let us know; collections will then stop after that years' subscription has expired.

Can I join the scheme part way through the year?

Collections run from March until November/December. You can join the scheme at any time and the renewal date will be one year after the date of subscription. You will still receive the full 9 months of service, spread over a 12 month period.

Can I pay less money for fewer collections?

No discounts are available for this service.

I have a lot of garden waste, can I have more than one bin?

Yes, there is a discount of 10% off the collection fee for subsequent bins, but each additional bin will still incur the £20.50 one-off fee for the provision and delivery of the bin.

What happens if I move house?

If you move within the Wyre Forest district, you may be able to change the collection to your new address if the scheme is available in that area.

If you move outside the district, there are no refunds for cancellations.

Please contact Worcestershire Hub on 01562 732928 to advise us of any changes to your collections.

Where does the garden waste go?

The garden waste will be stored at our depot and then sent for composting at Hill and Moor, near Pershore. It will be laid out in linear heaps, called windrows, and turned regularly to produce a good quality soil conditioner in just a few months.

What other options are there available for the disposal of my garden waste?

We recommend home composting as the main way to dispose of garden waste with the added benefit of vegetable peelings, tea-bags, eggshells and fruit waste that can be added to your home composter. These are available at a subsidised cost from just £8 for a 220lt bin (plus £5 delivery)

Alternatively, you can take your garden waste to either of our Household Waste Recycling Centres for composting.

Why can't I put veg peelings, fruit waste, tea bags and egg shells out for collection with the Garden Waste Collection Service?

The Council has to be approved to handle food and kitchen waste by the State Veterinary Service under the 'Animal By-Products Regulations' which were introduced to limit the spread of diseases after the foot and mouth outbreak a few years ago. Please use your home composter to dispose of this kitchen waste.

My bin has been stolen, can I have a replacement?

If your bin has been stolen, report it to the Worcestershire Hub on 01562 732928.

Please note that the Council reserves the right to make a charge for bins that are reported as stolen on a day that is not your normal collection day.  The cost of a replacement bin would otherwise be £20.50.

My bin is damaged, can I have a replacement?

Replacement bins are available. Please contact Worcestershire Hub on 01562 732928 for more information.

My bin has not been collected, what do I do?

Please check your bin for any labels to advise of any problems found e.g. contaminated waste.  If there are no labels then please contact Worcestershire Hub on 01562 732928 to arrange a re-visit to your property.

Where should I leave my bin for collection?

Your bin should be placed on the kerbside by 6.00am on the day of your collection as outlined in your information pack.
