Introduction
Operators of a range of mainly industrial processes must apply to
the Council or Environment Agency for permit under the Pollution
Prevention and Control Act 1999. The requirement covers existing as
well as new processes. The Pollution Control Section carries out
this service.
There are three levels of control:
- Part A1 Controlled by the Environment Agency
- Part A2 Controlled by Wyre Forest District Council
- Part B Controlled by Wyre Forest District Council
For more information on these controls visit the DEFRA website.
How does the Council control air pollution from industry?
When the Permit is granted, the Pollution Control Section will
attach conditions to the Permit to minimise the emission of
pollutants. This may include requirements for:
- pollution control equipment (equipment used to remove or reduce
pollution to the environment)
- routine monitoring (conducted by permit holder)
- prescribe the heights of chimneys
- conditions monitored by regular visits and inspections
- other measures designed to make emissions harmless to the
environment.
Once a Permit is granted, the licence is issued to the applicant
and a copy is placed on the Public Register.
