Frequently Asked Questions About Rubbish Collections

Why has my grey bin not been emptied today?

Please check your bin for a contamination label. If there isn't one, your grey bin was out before 7.00 am (unless previously notified) and there was no obstruction or access problem for the dustbin wagon, then we will arrange for the crew to return and empty your bin. Report it using our domestic rubbish collection form.

My bin has been stolen/damaged/is missing - how can I request a new one?

If you have previously had a grey bin at your property but it is now missing or damaged, you can request one by contacting Customer Services on 01562 732928.
Please note that the Council reserves the right to make a £20 charge for bins that are reported as stolen on a day that is not your normal collection day.

How can I request a pull-out and return ('assisted') service?

If you have difficulty taking your grey bin to the kerbside, then we can arrange for the crews to pull your bin out and return it back after emptying. In order to receive this service you will be assessed by our Customer Services Staff to the extent of your difficulty. For more information or to apply for this service please contact the Hub Tel: 01562 732928.

What can I do with my garden waste?

Please note that we do not accept garden waste in the grey rubbish bins for collection.

We recommend home composting as the main way for residents to dispose of their garden waste and kitchen fruit and veg waste. The Council can provide low-cost composting bins from just £7 (plus £5 delivery) to help with this. Visit our Composting page for more information.

Do you have too much garden waste to home compost? If so, we can collect it!
Our Garden Waste Collection Service provides a fortnightly collection service from a brown wheelie bin during the months of March to November. For £30 (plus a one-off fee of £20 per bin when you first join) residents can enjoy this environmentally-friendly and hassle-free way of having your garden waste collected and composted for you.

Don't worry if you join part-way through the collection period; for your £30 collection fee you will receive a fortnightly service until November 2010 after which there will be a break period until collections re-commence in March 2011. Your yearly subscription fee will not be due until a year after your service first began.

Please note the availability of the Garden Waste Collection Service is limited, and doesn't cover all homes. Visit the Garden Waste Collection Service page for more information.

Garden waste is also still accepted for composting at the Household Recycling Centres.

Will my bin be emptied on Bank Holidays?

Your bin will be collected as normal on Bank Holidays with the exception of the Christmas holiday period. A schedule for collections over this period will be available during December.
