Garden Waste Success!

So in 2011 just under 28,500 bins have been emptied containing over 520 tonnes of garden waste! If this waste had been sent to landfill it would have produced between 11,000 and 22,000 m3 of landfill gas!

NEW! Contamination Issues

Recently we have found a number of garden waste bins that have been contaminated with material that is not classed as garden waste. The most common items of contamination are plastic bags and plant pots but can include anything not classed as garden waste. If you are unsure of what can be put in your bin read our section on material that we can & cannot collect.

If your bin has not been emptied and you have received a letter there is no need to contact us; please remove the contamination and present your bin on your next collection day. We will not return to collect bins that have not been emptied because of contamination - we appreciate your cooperation with this.

Good News; Garden Waste Collection Service Available to Everyone!^

The Garden Waste Collection Service has been so successful that we are now able to offer it to everyone!^ Whether you live in Kidderminster, Stourport-on-Severn, Bewdley or in one of our more rural villages and hamlets you will be able to receive the service!

^As long as there are no access restrictions for the collection vehicle - generally, if you have a refuse/recycling bin collected from your property you will be able to have the service. If you're unsure, please contact the Hub on 01562 732928.

Success for the Service!

Read the press release

The Garden Waste Collection Service (GWCS) has been running successfully since April 2010. So far, residents have sent for composting over 1030 tonnes of garden waste that would otherwise have ended up in landfill.

To put this into perspective, that's about 40,000 wheelie bins of material!

Not only that, our very own Garden Waste Collection Crew have received praise for the service they provide which goes above and beyond what residents expect of them.

Karen Chance from Stourport says;

speech mark

We are really pleased with our garden waste collection. We joined as we were fed up of taking trips to the tip and getting garden mess in the car! Also, we seemed to have bin bags of garden rubbish constantly around the garden. Now it's a lot easier; the garden is tidy, and hopefully we are doing our bit for the environment which I'm trying to educate my children about. I would recommend the service to anyone, we would give it 10/10  speech mark 2

Another resident says;

  speech mark This is proving to be a first class service, on the odd occasion that I forget to put my bin on the pavement, it is taken from my garden and replaced in the correct position. Well done - much appreciated speech mark 2

Still not sure? Here are just some of the advantages of the service:

  • It's convenient and easy to use
  • It saves the time of loading your car and taking it to the household recycling centre, and reduces your carbon footprint
  • It saves trouble cleaning up grass and dirt from the back of your car afterwards
  • The garden waste is composted into a usable soil conditioner, and is available to purchase to improve your garden
  • It avoids garden waste being sent to landfill where it would rot and produce a toxic gas called methane, which contributes to climate change
  • For your £31 subscription fee you will receive 20 collections - that's £1.55 a collection

Here's what we will and will not be able to collect:
