Trees, Woodlands and Hedges
The trees, woodlands and hedgerows of the Wyre
Forest district are not only important to the character of the
area, but are also vital for local ecosystems and for the health
and wellbeing of the people of the district.
From the storage of carbon dioxide and capture of
airborne pollutants to their cooling effect during hot summer days,
trees play a more important part than many people are
aware of. As a result the Council has a crucial role to play in
protecting important trees and hedgerows in private ownership and
managing the trees within our own ownership in a sustainable
way.
The Council fulfills its duty by:
• Protecting
notable trees in private ownership by making Tree Preservation Orders (TPO).
• Preventing the
removal or inappropriate tree works to notable mature
Trees in Conservation Areas.
• Making formal
decisions on works proposed to protected trees in Tree
Work Applications.
• Providing a
pre-application Tree Work Advisory
Service.
• Preventing the
removal of important Hedgerows.
• Assessing
High Hedge complaints.
• Undertaking
Trees and Woodlands Management works in its Parks, Open Spaces and Local Nature Reserves.
• Planting new trees in
its annual Tree Planting
Projects.
