Broome Parish
Broome is a small parish, of about two square miles in area,
lying in the north east of the district in the shadow of the Clent
Hills. Although it is rural in character, and several of its
parishioners are farmers, its proximity to the West Midlands
conurbation makes it an attractive area for the commuter. It
includes two old settlements, the village of Broome and the hamlet
of Yieldingtree, as well as many newer houses at Hackman’s Gate and
elsewhere along the main road, which bisects the parish.
The village itself lies hidden from the major roads and has many
fine buildings, black and white, sandstone and brick. Even in the
parish’s small area there are a number of secluded country walks,
which permit the visitor to escape completely from the nearby
Birmingham and Black Country conurbation.
