Special offer for green thinking gardeners
The Garden Waste Collection Service run by
Wyre Forest District Council will soon be entering its third year
and to celebrate the success of the service residents are being
offered the chance to join the scheme at a very special price.
The cost of the service is normally £31 for
collections plus a one-off joining fee of £20.50 however customers
joining throughout January and February will pay only the
collection charge.
Customers have praised the high level of
service provided by the garden waste collection crew who were
acknowledged as the national Collection Crew of the Year 2011 at
the Let’s Recycle Awards for Excellence held at the Savoy Hotel in
London last May.
Jo Duffield, Waste Minimisation Officer at
Wyre Forest District Council said “The garden waste collection
service offers residents the chance to have their garden waste
taken away in a convenient and environmentally-friendly way.
Collections are made fortnightly from their doorstep and composted,
creating a rich soil conditioner.”
Starting in March and running for nine months,
collections are made fortnightly from brown wheelie bins. Grass
cuttings, hedge and shrub clippings, leaves, twigs and bark, small
plants and weeds, cut flowers and windfall fruit can all be sent
for composting through the scheme.
Councillor Marcus Hart, Cabinet Member with
responsibility for Environmental Services said, “The garden waste
collection service has been a big hit with Wyre Forest residents
with over 42,000 bins emptied containing 1,220 tonnes of garden
waste being sent for composting over the last two years. The
special price offer makes the service available to more of our
residents who can then enjoy the benefits whilst being
environmentally friendly, too.”
The Council is holding roadshows outside the
Town Hall in Kidderminster on Saturday January 14th and
Saturday February 18th where residents can find out more
about the service and join up. More information is available on the
Council’s website www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/gardenwaste
where forms can be downloaded or alternatively obtained at the
Worcestershire Hub Customer Service Centres.
The special offer is only available for
applications received on or before February 29th 2012
with payments being made through direct debit only.
