Anniversary Dance – 60 years on!

Are you celebrating your 50th or 60th Wedding Anniversary this year or do you know a local couple who is?

If so, you are invited to a special Tea Dance as part of the celebrations being hosted by Wyre Forest District Council and the Kidderminster Shuttle to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The Tea Dance will be held at Kidderminster Town Hall on Thursday 31st May 2012 from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm. The event will be free.  To get a ticket, we are inviting couples (or families of couples) celebrating either their 50th or 60th Wedding Anniversaries to write to the Shuttle, telling your story and offering any tips to a long and happy marriage!

We would also like to hear from any couple who got married in 1957 as this was the only time that the Queen visited Wyre Forest.

Councillor Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing said “This is sure to be a really special occasion and we want to make it as memorable as possible for the celebrating couples.

"As the event is free and for local couples only, we would also like to hear from any kind local people or businesses who can donate special items such as small round tables, red, white, or blue tablecloths, red, white and blue balloons, cake stands, button holes or corsages and, of course, sandwiches to fill up those cake stands!

“So far we are very grateful to the team at Kidderminster Town Hall who have given us the room for free and donated tea and coffee for the event. In addition, all the cakes have very been kindly donated by local Bakers, Gainsborough Studio Bakery of Coventry Street Kidderminster. Local poet Heather Wastie will be doing a short reading at the Tea Dance and she has also donated her time for free.”

To obtain your ticket, write to Shuttle editor Clive Joyce at 6 Tower Buildings, Blackwell Street, Kidderminster DY10 2DY.  Closing date for applications is Friday 30th March 2012.
