Youngsters learn about recycling
Staff and children at a local day nursery in Kidderminster were
delighted when one of Wyre Forest District Council's recycling
trucks turned up to help them learn about rubbish and
recycling.
The children, from Hickory Dickory Dock Day Nursery in
Spennells, watched excitedly out of the window as the large yellow
truck pulled up, lights flashing, and the crew Carl, Dave and Gary
stepped out.
To help them to understand where their rubbish goes after it's
been put into the bin the children watched as first a small bin
then a large one was tipped into the back of the vehicle and
compacted. From a safe distance children were able to see what was
happening and were told about what happens to the rubbish when it
goes in the truck.
Jo Duffield, Waste Minimisation Officer at the Council
said,
"The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit, watching as the bins
were lifted up, emptied into the truck and the material squashed up
to fit more in. It's important for children to understand what
happens to their rubbish and a simple way to teach them to recycle
is through playing fun sorting games and looking at recycled
products.'
Councillor Marcus Hart, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet
Member for Environmental Services said,
"Getting children engaged with recycling at an early age is a
great way of educating them to look after the environment in the
future."
More information on recycling is available on the recycling
webpages.
