Council helping home owners who are struggling to pay their
mortgage
Wyre Forest District Council has been awarded
funding of £41k to help those at risk of becoming homeless due to
mortgage repossession.
The funding is part of the £19 million fund
announced by Grant Shapps, the Housing Minister, on 9th February
2012 to enable local authorities to help homeowners at risk of
repossession.
The money will be used to establish a
Preventing Repossessions Fund to assist homeowners who are at risk
of mortgage possession and ensure that deals can be brokered
between all parties. Homeowners must be prepared to act on the
independent money advice given to ensure they resolve their housing
difficulties in the long term.
Councillor Julian Phillips, Wyre Forest
District Council’s Cabinet Member for Place Shaping, which includes
Housing and Planning, said
“It is very positive that the government has
recognised the issues for some home owners in the Wyre Forest area.
The District Council and Community Housing Group have been doing
very positive work to prevent people becoming homeless through
losing their home. It is absolutely right that a form of safety net
be provided to advise people of potential options if they are at
risk of repossession”.
The Homeless Project Officer, Rose Leonard
said “The number of people struggling to pay their mortgage is
increasing so this funding will be really useful to provide some
breathing space and help to resolve people’s financial problems.
The important thing is to seek advice and assistance as early as
possible”

repossession can contact Rose Leonard directly on 01562 732563.
