Lucy brings coaching success
Wyre Forest District Council's Community Sports Coach, Lucy
Savage is celebrating after being named the Football Association
Coach of the Year for Worcestershire.
Lucy was given the FA McDonald's Community Award for her
commitment to improving standards of community football and
increasing participation in the sport. She has been working
for the Council just over two years. As part of her job she
runs football sessions to children of all abilities in schools
throughout the district during term time. She has also just
completed a summer programme of sporting sessions for children
during the school holidays.
Lucy said,
"I'm delighted to pick up the award. I really enjoy my
work and I'm especially keen to
develop girls and women's football in the region.
What I'm ultimately aiming for is help youngsters build on their
skills so they continue with the game and join a local club."
Councillor Tracey Onlsow, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet
Member with responsibility for Community Well-being said,
"Congratulations to Lucy. It's recognition of the work
Lucy does, dedicating time to developing tomorrow's young
talent. The Sports Development Team is committed to
developing and maintaining sporting opportunities for the whole
community and this award highlights just one aspect of what they
do."
It is the second year the FA Community Awards have been given
out. They were created to recognise and reward individuals
and clubs across the country who make a difference to grassroots
football in their local community.
