Kidderminster Lengthsman proves a success

Working in partnership with Worcestershire County Council, Wyre Forest District Council introduced the Lengthsman for Kidderminster in 2010 and it has been so successful, the partners have agreed to extend the scheme for at least another 12 months.

John Woodhouse was appointed to the post and he has been working within the district in the un-parished areas of Kidderminster to improve cleanliness on highways and in other public areas to compliment the Council's existing Street Scene service. Most recently he has been working hard to clear the detritus and to improve specific areas such as Park Street, Wood Street, Peel Street, Cobden Street, Castle Road and Park Lane.

He has been removing weeds from pavements, the roads and generally enhancing their appearance.

The Lengthsman's work also includes inspecting nameplates within the district to ensure they are clean and in good condition.  Recently the Lengthsman has undertaken maintenance work and repainting of nameplates in George Street, Kittiwake Drive and Hawfinch Drive.

John is also responsible for moving the Road Speed Indicators around the District as requested by the Highways Agency.  He has done this on the Stourbridge Road, Kidderminster to alert road users to the speed limit within the area.

Councillor Marcus Hart, Wyre Forest District Council Cabinet Member for Environmental Services said,

"I'm delighted with the success of the Lengthsman scheme in Kidderminster. Many of the rural towns and parishes already take advantage of this service and we wanted to make sure that Kidderminster didn't miss out simply because it wasn't a parished area. John has done a great job of tidying up the area to complement the Council's own Street Scene team's work. I hope that this is something we can continue with in the future.

Access to the Lengthsman's services is only available through the District and County Councillors for the Kidderminster area, so if anyone wants an area tackled I would encourage them to contact their local Councillor to make a request".
