Garden Waste Collection Crew Win National Award
Wyre Forest District Council's Garden Waste
Collection Crews has won the 2011 Let's Recycle Awards for
Excllence Crew of the Year.
The two man crew consisting of Carl Bilboe,
38, and John Burgess, 63, were announced the winners at a ceremony
at The Savoy Hotel in London on Thursday 12th
May.
Carl Bilboe said, "This is unbelievable, I’m
really chuffed. I was a bit surprised when we were told that not
only had we been nominated, but that we were through to the finals.
I really never thought we had a chance of winning, this is
brilliant. We have met some really lovely people all over the
District while doing our job, who have been so kind and friendly.
Winning the award is a real plus and it is nice to know that we get
good feedback from our customers."
The crew won praise for the quality of the
service they provide as well as the way they go about their
job.
Steve Eminton, Editor of letsrecycle.com,
said: “The judges chose Carl Bilboe and John Burgess of Wyre Forest
as winner of the collection crew category for the high standard of
garden waste collection they provided plus the positive approach
the pair had to their work. Additionally the judges recognised the
adaptability of the pair in working on refuse collection in the
winter.”
The Garden Waste Collection Service was set up
in April 2010. In a recent customer questionnaire 99% of
respondents stated that they ‘completely agreed’ that they were
happy with the level of service provided by the Garden Waste
Collection Crew. Points highlighted included that the crew
were happy to take time to talk to customers about the service and
their collections, they look for bins when residents have forgotten
to put them out and the crew would not just leave bins if the wrong
materials had been put in, instead they would speak to the
resident and explain why.
Councillor Nathan Desmond, Wyre Forest
District Council’s Cabinet Member for Resources said,
“Many congratulations to Carl and John, this
is a fantastic result. We are proud of the Garden Waste
service which we feel offers quality and value for money. We
are delighted the crew’s hard work has now won national
recognition. They are a credit to themselves and the
authority.”
The Garden Waste Collection Service costs just
£31 per year plus a one-off fee of £20.50 for a brown
bin. Find
