How to Survive the Summer Holidays

A night under the stars awaits those who take up the Survive challenge this summer.  This is just one of the activities put on by Wyre Forest District Council’s Rangers as their part of the summer activity programme.

Over 8’s can do their bit for an endangered habitat, create their own pots for their water supply, build camps and find out what creatures they may be sharing the forest with over night.  The Survive event is happening on the weekend of Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July and youngsters must be accompanied by an adult.  Other activities on offer include survival skills, fast and furious down hill racing, a wildlife canoe trip, a night with bats and an animal day on the Council’s nature reserve.

The Summer Activities also include free ‘Play Here’ days with games, arts, sports and craft activities.  They are run by a team of play activity leaders and are two and a half hours of fun, every week at parks across the district.

These are on at Baxter Gardens, Kidderminster, Areley Kings Recreational Park, Stourport, Spennells Park Kidderminster, Northwood Lane Park, Bewdley and Wolverley Memorial Park.  Among the Sports Courses on offer are tennis, dance and athletics.  For those with creative hands there are craft activities at Bewdley Museum and there is also a whole host of activities at the Leisure Centres.

Councillor Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Well-being said,

“Once again we’ve got a fun packed summer lined up for our youngsters.  There is something to do for children of all ages and this year the Rangers have introduced ‘Big Family Events’ too, for the first time.  Many of the activities are free, and most are under £5.00.  With so much on offer the summer holidays will fly by!”

Details on all the activities are in the Summer Activity programme.  The brochure also includes information about this year’s Kidderminster Arts Festival (KAF).  This is the annual event including two weeks of music, arts and drama for all the family in and around the town.

The Summer Activity programme is being launched in schools from 14th June when all pupils will be given a copy or you can pick one up from Worcestershire Hubs, Wyre Forest Customer Service Centres at Kidderminster Town Hall, Stourport Civic Centre and Load Street, Bewdley.
