Have you ever wondered what your Councillor does?
Wyre Forest District Council is keen to
promote the roles and responsibilities of its Members and this
year four new Councillors, John Hart, Vi Higgs, Chris Rogers
and Adrian Sewell, together with new Cabinet Member Councillor
Julian Phillips are recording their thoughts and activities during
their first year in office.
Councillor Phillips said ‘I am delighted to be
invited to take part in this new initiative. It’s a fantastic
opportunity to promote democracy in Wyre Forest and to encourage
others to consider being a Councillor whilst learning a little more
about what goes on behind the scenes.’
Each month Members will be updating their
profiles to record their activities which can range from attending
local community meeting, picking up litter or sorting out problems
for a citizen or attending a variety of Council meetings. The
Council will be updating the profiles for each Member every month,
and you will be able to follow their monthly updates by following
the links on the Council’s Website, Facebook and Twitter pages.
The Chief Executive Ian Miller explained ‘The
Council has a duty to promote democracy and this is an excellent
opportunity to find out more on the role of a Councillor and to
read about it in their own words. Each of the Members will
bring a different perspective and I’m looking forward to reading
their updates each month.’
Cllr Higgs added ‘As a returning Councillor
and being in opposition I shall look forward to being able to let
the public know what it’s like on the other side of the Chamber,
and encouraging others to stand as Councillors.
