The horse is unveiled
Following much anticipation and public debate, the newly created
Horse statue was unveiled in Kidderminster's Horsefair on
Thursday 30th June.
Made from over 500 horseshoes, the life size
horse attracted attention from passers by and locals who came
to see the new addition to the local landscape. The type of horse
to be created was selected by local residents who voted on
postcards to each household. The majority vote was for a galloping
thoroughbred. Horseshoes that have come to the end of their life
and would normally go to landfill have new found a new lease of
life in the sculpture.
Tom Hill who created the horse said, "I'm really pleased with
the finished product. I hope local people will enjoy it and take
the sculpture to their hearts."
Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet Member for
Community Well-being said,
"This has truly been a community project with many people
getting involved with choosing the artist to design the
artwork and voting on the design itself."
The Horsefair artwork has been paid for with funding from
developers, Cox Homes.
