Council reviews Sports and Leisure Centres
Wyre Forest Glades Leisure Centre, Stourport Sports Centre and
Bewdley Leisure Centre are currently managed by Wyre Forest Leisure
Community Association Ltd (WFLCA) on behalf of and in partnership
with Wyre Forest District Council.
As the current contract with WFLCA ends in March 2013, in order
to ensure there is sufficient time for all options to be fully
considered, Wyre Forest District Council will be carrying out a
review of sport and leisure centre provision within Wyre Forest
over the next few months.
Councillor Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet
Member for Community & Partnership Services said:
"Wyre Forest District Council is very proud of its leisure
centres and the important part they play in the health and well
being of the local community. As residents will have seen from the
recent residents' Budget Consultation Questionnaire, the Council
subsidies local leisure centres by £1.2 million per year, a figure
set to increase year-on-year, in part due to the age of the leisure
centre buildings.
"As the current partnership agreement will be ending in March
2013, this is the ideal time for the Council to explore a range of
ways to enable leisure centre provision for Wyre Forest and to
invest in sustainable facilities for the future".
Wyre Forest District Council has been delighted with the
partnership arrangement to date which has been in operation since
April 2003 and has saved the Council half a million pounds per
year.
The review will involve all partners and it is hoped that the
options will be available for scrutiny by a cross-party panel of
councillors by Spring 2011. The results will then be
available for public consultation.
