Please put your bins back
Residents are being reminded to move their wheelie bins back to
their property as soon as possible after it has been
emptied.
The request from Wyre Forest District Council comes after
several instances of bins being left outside properties for long
periods. This causes a hazard and nuisance to other members
of the community.
Dan Bailey is just one example of someone who finds it difficult
to navigate the pavements when bins have been left out. He
uses his mobility scooter to get to college and town. He
said,
"Using my scooter gives me independence. It means that I
don't have to rely on others to take me places but I have great
difficulty when the paths are blocked because people have left
their bins out between collections instead of taking them back.
"
Leaving wheelie bins on the pavement causes problems for many
groups of people including the elderly, people in wheelchairs and
people with pushchairs.
Councillor Nathan Desmond, Wyre Forest District Council's
Cabinet Member for Resources said,
"We're asking residents to remember to take their bins in as
soon as possible after their waste or recycling has been
collected. We know in some circumstances this is not
possible, but we are focussing on the homes where bins are
persistently left out for long periods. It's inconsiderate
for other members of the community and also means the area doesn't
look at its best. "
The Council offers some residents help with collecting and
returning bins from their house. The service is available to
those people who are most in need and do not have an able-bodied
person living at the house. For more information email the
Council's Customer Service Team at Worcestershire
Hub or call 01562 732928.
