Let's Dance!
Dancers are warming up to bid for a top title at the 2011
Wyre Forest Dance Festival to be held at Stourport Civic Hall from
Sunday 20thth to Saturday 26th February.
Over 1000 entries are anticipated this year as the Wyre Forest
Dance Festival goes from strength to strength. Dancers from all
disciplines will be stepping out including ballet, modern, Greek,
national lyrical and many more.
The adjudicator for 2011 is Jill Redford who trained at the
Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts, gaining her teaching
qualifications including advanced Royal Academy of Dance.
Jill is an All England and Federation Adjudicator, an equity
member, and an examiner for Imperial Society of Teachers of
Dancing. Many of her ex pupils are now studying at Theatre Colleges
or are working in the business.
The festival will climax with the Junior, Intermediate and
Senior Championships at the end of the week.
Spectators are invited to watch competitors at a charge of
£2.50 for adults and £1.50 for children and senior citizens.
Dancing starts at 9.00 am and finishes at around 6.30 pm.
Programmes cost £2 each are now available from the
Worcestershire Hub at Kidderminster Town Hall or at Stourport Civic
Centre. 
Councillor Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet
Member for Community & Partnership Services said,
"We're looking forward to another spectacular Dance Festival.
We're particularly proud to announce that Wyre Forest District
Council has been selected to hold a qualifying heat for a National
competition in theatre dance called Miss Dance / Dance Master UK.
We encourage dancers to get in touch to be included in this
qualifying heat."
The qualifying heat for Miss Dance/Dance Master is to be held at
4.55pm on Sunday 20th February. Girls and boys aged 16 and above
who love to dance are encouraged to enter. The winners of this heat
will go onto the Grand Final which is provisionally arranged for
June 2011 in Blackpool. Closing date for this section is Wednesday
9th February 2011.
This years' festival is also a qualifying festival for the All
England Dance Competition. This means that if a performer achieves
a certain mark, they automatically qualify to enter the regional
final which will be held this year at The Dormston Centre, Sedgley
between 27th May and 4th June. The National
Finals are at the Peacock Theatre, London, between
29th July and 7th August 2011.
