Help shape Churchfields and Horsefair
Residents are being asked for their views on a
draft masterplan for the Churchfields and Horsefair area of
Kidderminster.
Last November more than 100 people attended
two days of drop in sessions to give their views on the future of
the area. This feedback was used to work up the draft
masterplan which now really begins to show how the Churchfields and
Horsefair area could look. Residents are being invited to
give their opinions on this draft so a final plan can be produced
by March 2011.

The Churchfields area of town, once dominated
by carpet factories, has already been highlighted through the
ReWyre Initiative and Kidderminster Regeneration Prospectus as
major regeneration area. The Prospectus introduced the idea of this
area as being a new urban village, linking in with the existing
Horsefair community as well as the town centre.
The area is one of the largest regeneration
opportunities in the district and Wyre Forest District Council is
working with MADE to develop a masterplan of area to help guide its
future development. MADE are West Midlands based a built
environment charity who work to promote quality place-making and
design to ensure we create places that people want to spend there
time in. They are assisting in providing expert urban design and
transport skills that are crucial to the plan.
The aim of the masterplan is to set out the
guiding principles for the future redevelopment of the entire
Churchfields area. The District Council is producing this plan
independently from any proposals that may be presented via private
developers for individual parts of the masterplan area.
On Friday 18th and Saturday 19th February a
drop-in consultation event is taking place at the Salvation Army
Centre, Jerusalem Walk in the Horsefair, Kidderminster, from 10am
to 4pm. Residents will be able to meet the
masterplanning team and discuss the future of the area with
them. They will also be able to see a 3D model of the
area.
Councillor Stephen Clee, Wyre Forest District
Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration said:
“The previous consultation event drew a really
good response from the community and provided some great
constructive feedback. This consultation event offers the chance to
see how the project has moved forward and is starting to take
shape. I hope that people once again take the opportunity to share
their views on the plans so far.”
