Have your say on Areley Kings Conservation Area Appraisal
Residents, groups and businesses are being asked to give their
views on plans for Areley Kings Conservation Area.
Wyre Forest District Council Policy and Regeneration Team is
preparing a Character Appraisal for the Areley Kings Conservation
Area. A Character Appraisal is a document which outlines the
significance and special interest of a Conservation Area; it
details the features that make that specific area unique. It is one
of the documents that guides and informs planning policy for an
area. The team would like the views of local people and business
about important features of the area.
Areley Kings was given Conservation Area status by Wyre Forest
District Council in 1993. Areley Kings is one of 16
conservation areas in the Wyre Forest district. Conservation
Areas are areas of special architectural or historic interest. They
should have a character or appearance which is desirable to
preserve or enhance. Under The Planning (Listed Buildings and
Conservation Areas) Act 1990 the Council has a statutory duty to
monitor these areas from time to time and this is why the Council
is carrying out this appraisal.
The proposals for a draft Character Appraisal for Areley Kings
Conservation Area can viewed online in the
conservation section. They can also be viewed at the
Worcestershire Hub, at Kidderminster Town Hall and
Stourport-on-Severn Civic Centre.
Councillor Stephen Clee, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet
Member for Planning, Regeneration and Prosperity said,
"The Council is currently at the draft stage of the appraisal
process and we're asking local people to take part in identifying
the qualities and features that they feel are important to the
character of Areley Kings Conservation Area. This consultation
gives people, with an interest in this area, an opportunity to help
preserve its character."
The consultation runs until 31st March 2011.
