Cabinet Minister briefed on regeneration proposals for
Kidderminster
Rt Hon Caroline Spelman MP, Secretary of State
for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, has been briefed
by Wyre Forest District Council officers on ReWyre, the
ambitious regeneration programme for Kidderminster. Ms Spelman
was accompanied by the local MP, Mark Garnier.
Ken Harrison, Policy and Regeneration Manager said,I "It
was good to have the opportunity to brief a senior member of the
Government on how the Council worked closely with
local business and other partners to develop a vision for the
future economic development of the area. ReWyre is at the core
of our drive for future economic growth, and securing the
economic prosperity of the district is one of the
top priorities in the Council's corporate plan for 2011-14. I
was able to share with the Secretary of State the progress made by
the ReWyre board, which is led by Mark Moore, Director of Strategy
Implementation at Morgan Technical Ceramics.
"One of ReWyre's ambitions is the South Kidderminster
Business and Nature Park, with redevelopment of the former British
Sugar site to link the employment zones along Stourport Road
and Worcester Road while protecting the environmentally
important Stour valley corridor. We are discussing with our
business and other partners the case for submitting the area
as the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership's proposal
for Enterprise Zone status."
" The Secretary of State expressed great interest in the ReWyre
initiative, and the way environmental protection can be combined
with economic generation."
