Wyre Forest Exceeds Savings Targets
Wyre Forest District Council significantly
exceeded the previous Government's targets for
efficiency savings, delivering over £3m last year, which
equates to savings of over 8% of the Council's budget.
Under the Comprehensive Spending Review in 2007, the
Council was set targets of 3% efficiency gains in 2008/09 and
2009/10, increasing to 4% in 2010/11. A report to Wyre Forest's
Cabinet on 21st September 2010 shows how the Council achieved
significantly more than the 3% target in 2009/10.
The Government's plans for future grant support
for councils will be set out in the Comprehensive Spending
Review, which will be published on 20th October 2010.
These are expected to require even higher levels of savings
and spending reductions.
Councillor Nathan Desmond, Cabinet Member for Resources
said,
"This is an excellent result for the Council and the residents
of Wyre Forest. The Council is committed to driving out
efficiencies from all areas of the Council and the savings which
have been achieved have allowed us to deliver our front line
services which our residents require.
There will be further savings required in the years ahead,
however, it is clear that we have a track record of rising to the
challenge of reducing budgets. We are awaiting the publication of
the Spending Review 2010 next month to determine the scale of the
challenges that lie ahead"
The Cabinet next meets on 21st September 2010 at 6pm at
Duke House, Clensmore Street, Kidderminster.
