Community Conversations Set to Walk the Talk
Wyre Forest Matters, the local strategic
partnership is launching a series of new community consultation
workshops which will help define district priorities for the next
five years.
The first Community Conversations event will
be held at Kidderminster Town Hall on Monday 4th October
6.30 pm – 8.30 pm.
Ray Brookes, Chair of Wyre Forest Matters
said
“The idea is that residents and business
people in the district have the opportunity to meet with high level
representatives from organisations such as the Council,
Worcestershire NHS, West Mercia Police and other partners.
The feedback from these events will help form
the basis of district priorities for the next five years.
The programme for the two hour workshop will
start with a short presentation from keynote speaker Professor Ted
Cantle who established the Institute of Community Cohesion (iCoCo)
in 2005 and holds the post of Executive Chair. This will be
followed by group discussions where people get together round
tables to discuss specific local issues. These discussions will be
on topics that residents have told us are important to them such as
education, community safety, housing, transport, local environment,
health and wellbeing, employment and economy
Ray Brookes said “This is all part of the
drive towards people in communities having more influence over what
happens in their area. Community Conversations isn’t for people to
report things like potholes in the road or talk about specific
crime incidents. It’s a platform to discuss high level issues such
as how we can make our community healthier, how to get involved
with local democracy, or how to make areas safer.
We hope people who want to make a contribution
to community development will attend. We have chosen venues and
times of events that will accommodate different people’s lifestyles
to make them accessible to all.”
