Horsefair Public Art Commission
Artists are being invited to apply to win the commission for a
piece of public art in the Horsefair.
A brief is being issued by Wyre Forest District Council inviting
artists to demonstrate their portfolio of work and interest in the
project. The commission will be advertised to artists who have
worked in the district or applied in previous years. It will
also be promoted on arts websites such as The Arts Council England
and Arts Hub.
A shortlist will be drawn up and the Council will work with a
panel of local stakeholders to select four artists who meet the
criteria. This will include things like the artist's
experience and the appropriateness of style and materials suggested
for the site. There will be consultation and a vote by the public
to decide on the most popular artist. The chosen candidate will
then be asked to consult with the public about producing a
design.
They will work in consultation with the panel to see the project
through to completion.
This is the next stage of the Horsefair public art
project. It is hoped to attract a wide range of artists from
various fields so that the community has the opportunity to see the
different options open to them. There are 5 more consultation
sessions planned before the designs are agreed so there will be
plenty of chances to shape the artists ideas.
The deadline for artists to apply is close of business,
12th of November 2010. For more details please email
arts development or
call 01562 732928 and ask for arts development.
Further developments on the project can be found on our
leisure and culture pages.
The artwork will be located on the Horsefair Triangle and paid
with funding from developers, Cox Homes. It is planned
for completion by April 2011.
