Your Summer Sorted!
The school half term has just finished and at
Wyre Forest District Council they’re already looking forward to the
Summer Holidays.
The authority has started online booking for
its Summer Activities, which is a packed programme of things to do,
places to visit and activities to take part in – and many are free
or £5 and under.
There are trips and activities for children
aged 8-14. These range from a wildlife canoe trip to climbing
and bouldering and dancing on ice!
The ‘Play Here’ sessions are free drop
sessions and include sports, crafts, games and arts
activities. They are run by a team of play activity leaders
and are two and a half hours of fun, every week at parks across the
district.
The programme also includes countryside family
events for those who love outdoor adventures. If you are up for
night bat watching or would like to have a go at pond dipping,
there are plenty of trips to go on with the Council’s
Rangers.
For those who enjoy sports there are free
activities and also paid for courses. The courses offer
specialist sessions in sports including netball, tennis and
dance.
Children who are interested in creative crafts
are included too. There is a special holiday programme at
Bewdley Museum where they can have a go at all sort of crafts such
as weaving and pottery to printing bugs and insects!
Details on all the activities are in the
Summer Activity programme. The brochure also includes
information about this year’s Kidderminster Arts Festival
(KAF). This is the annual event including two weeks of music,
arts and drama for all the family in and around the town. You
can also find out what is on offer at Bewdley Museum and the
leisure centres in the Summer Activities programme.
Some of the activities on offer require
children under eight years old to be accompanied by an
adult.
You can now view the
programme and book events online. Phone bookings (01562 732984)
open on 28th June 2010.
The Summer Activity programme is being
launched in schools from 14th June when all pupils will
be given a copy or you can pick one up from Worcestershire Hubs,
Wyre Forest Customer Service Centres at Kidderminster Town Hall,
Stourport Civic Centre and Load Street, Bewdley.
Councillor Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District
Council’s Cabinet Member for Community & Partnership Services
said,
“The online programme is a great way to view
our Summer Activities and the timetable. It also means you
can get your bookings in early so you don’t miss out on the
fun. We’ve listened to the feedback from last year and worked
on providing more of the popular events and activities while
ensuring there is something to do this summer for children of all
ages. The Programme explains which age groups activities are
suitable for and any costs. There’s so much to do, it is definitely
worth looking at the programme now so you can organise a summer of
fun.”
