New cycle track off to a roaring start!
More than 100 cycling enthusiasts and local residents attended
the launch of the new Cycle Track at Stourport Cycle Club on Friday
11 June.
Cyclists of all ages from around the Wyre
Forest turned up to ride the new track which was officially opened
by Alf Sparkes Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club President, junior
member James Plant, Dave Cockram National Facilities Officer
British Cycling and Councillor Yarranton Chairman of Wyre Forest
District Council.
The event was boosted by riders and supporters
from 15 cycling clubs from around the Midlands who came along to
try out the new circuit. These include Severn Valley Velo,
Wolverhampton Wheelers, Halesowen A & CC, Black Country
Triathletes, Worcester St Johns CC and Redditch cycling clubs.
A host of international cyclists and ex Tour
of Britain riders plus the ‘cycling talent’ of the future took part
in the “Go Ride” session along with Councillor Yarranton and other
VIP guests.
Stourport Sports Club is the home of Wyre
Forest Cycle Racing Club (WFCRC). Alf Sparkes, President of
WFCRC said “We are so pleased with how well the evening went and
are thrilled with the level of support from so many clubs in the
Midlands who turned up to ride around the track. WFCRC would like
to thank Stourport Sports Club and British Cycling and everyone
involved in their combined effort to produce such a wonderful
facility that can now be enjoyed by so many cyclists and used to
develop future talent”.
Anyone can use the cycle track. There’s no
need to book. Just turn up, pay and away you go! Cost
of riding the track is £3.00 for adults and £1.50 for juniors
during public sessions. Public sessions are always available 5.00pm
-6.00 pm Monday – Friday and 9.00 am -12 noon Saturday and Sunday.
