Green recycling bins delivery gets underway
Green wheelie bins for the new and improved recycling service in
Wyre Forest are starting to be delivered this week. Over the next
three weeks residents will receive their new bin for the scheme
which will start on Monday 5th July.
The service is being changed to make it easier
for residents to recycle more. Residents will no longer have
to sort their recycling into the separate boxes instead they can
put all items for recycling into the green wheelie bin. The
Council’s new sorting facility means that from 5th July
residents will also be able to recycle lots more materials.
This includes yoghurt pots, all cardboard boxes and juice
cartons.
Information packs explaining the new service
and giving more details on what can be recycled are being delivered
to all homes at the same time as the bins.
The new scheme also means refuse and recycling
is being collected on alternate weeks. Recycling collected one
week, and refuse collected the following week.
Councillor Nathan Desmond, Wyre Forest
District Council’s Cabinet Member for Resources said,
“The bins are being delivered now and we’re
asking residents to store them until their first recycling
collection is scheduled after 5th July. This
easier to use recycling scheme and the introduction of the garden
waste collection service earlier this year is making Wyre Forest
greener in the way that it handles waste. The Government has
set challenging recycling targets for local Councils (40% by
2010). With the residents’ help these new plans will assist
us to achieve these targets.”
